FACTS ABOUT IAPM CERTIFICATION
AT A GLANCE
INDIVIDUAL PREPARATION
The IAPM wants to give all certification can-
didates the opportunity to take an individ-
ual approach to gaining their certificate, so
there is no obligatory preparatory course. It
isn’t relevant to the IAPM if the candidate
gained the necessary knowledge through
home study, at a business college or uni-
versity, through many years of professional
experience or in a structured course pro-
vided by a training partner. It is important,
however, that the candidate is adequately
prepared and has an in-depth and broad
knowledge base. Experience shows that
project managers with many years of expe-
rience appreciate the opportunity to obtain
certification without the need to attend a
preparatory course.
The IAPM views itself as a certification
body, not a training institution. Its “PM
Guide 2.0“, the “Agile PM Guide 2.0“ and
the “International PM Guide 2.0“ allow
anyone who is interested in certification to
gain an idea of the certification examina-
tion’s content and brush up their knowl-
edge. Taking the online self-test at www.
iapm.net is another excellent way to iden-
tify knowledge gaps.
However, many people still prefer to pre-
pare for certification by attending a train-
ing course or workshop, so the IAPM has
licensed training partners who provide
preparatory courses for each certification
