The IAPM leaves the decision of whether
to prepare for the examination by way of
home study, business college, the internet
or a preparatory course up to the certifica-
tion candidates themselves. However, com-
panies tend to prefer courses because the
trainer can then address specific company-
related issues and optimally prepare par-
ticipants for certification. An interim test is
often part of the preparatory course. It helps
participants to assess whether they are
ready for the IAPM examination.
All certification examinations are online.
The IAPM offers project management train-
ers the opportunity to become IAPM-certi-
fied training partners.
First of all, the trainer who would like to
become a partner takes the Certified Sen-
ior Project Manager (IAPM) certification
examination. Then he or she can apply to
take part in a Certified Project Management
Trainer (IAPM) course. An IAPM committee
assesses the potential trainer’s competence
and experience in a workshop environment
as the basis for a decision on whether they
will be allowed to complete the rest of the
process, which involves teaching a prepara-
tory course unit.
After certification, the IAPM provides its
trainers with all the methods and tools that
they need to plan and prepare their cours-
es. These include comprehensive teach-
ing materials in printed and digital format,
promotional materials, course files for par-
ticipants, a project management textbook,
assignments and solutions and many other
things.
As a Certified Project Management Trainer
you are IAPM-approved as an expert train-
er. If you like, you can make a presentation
or give a talk on a specific subject at one
of the numerous IAPM events, or document
your expertise by publishing by-lined arti-
cles in our social media channels or on our
website.
