Stefan Mülstegen is IAPM Project Manager of the Year

Stefan Mülstegen is IAPM Project Manager of the Year 10.11.2015 - The IAPM International Association of Project Managers has announced the name of the person to receive the Project Manager of the Year Award 2015: Stefan Mülstegen, Senior Project Manager Contract Logistics at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics GmbH & Co. KG in Osnabrück. The award was initiated by the IAPM to pay tribute to IAPM-certified project managers for outstanding achievements in project management. The IAPM selects the Project Manager of the Year on the basis of a comparison of the best IAPM Certified Senior Project Manager profiles over the previous twelve months.

Stefan Mülstegen commented: “I’m honoured to have received this award and it’s convinced me to stick to my way of project management. One of the most important things in project management is communication between project team members. It allows the entire team to share individual achievements, to support each other when setbacks occur and to resolve problems faster and in a more targeted way.” Another equally important aspect of effective project management is keeping pace with new trends and technology.

Mülstegen obtained his certification in August 2014. He chose IAPM certification because he wanted to get his existing theoretical and practical expertise assessed by a neutral and, more importantly, international project management body.

Soft skills in project management are strongly weighted in the certification

The IAPM selects the award winner on the basis of three neutral criteria:
project management knowledge, project management experience and personal conduct in a project environment. Mülstegen passed the comprehensive examination for Certified Senior Project Manager (IAPM) certification with a distinction and his score for project management methods and experience was extremely high in comparison to the other candidates. His own company describes him as an honest and loyal project manager with excellent communication and motivation skills, plus impressive team spirit. These soft skills are particularly strongly weighted in IAPM certifications and Stefan’s excellence in that area was an important consideration in the judges‘ decision to make him Project Manager of the Year.

In his function of Senior Project Manager Contract Logistics Stefan has headed numerous logistics projects with various levels of complexity, budgets and team sizes over the past six years. For example, he managed a project to build an entire distribution centre - from greenfield site to turnkey warehouse. His core responsibilities in this project included process management, liaison with customers and the IT department.

The IAPM praised the award winner’s excellence in project management and additionally commended him for communicating his knowledge and experience to students of the Logistics Management University, where he has been lecturing since 2014. Since November he is working for the Volkswagen Konzern after his longtime practice at Hellmann.
