Follow-up on the Network Meeting in Hamburg (Germany) on 9 February 2015

The IAPM‘s Senior Official Udo Schmidt hosted the Metropolitan Region of Hamburg’s first IAPM Network Meeting of the year on 9 February 2015. It was attended by IAPM certificate holders and their guests. The event was also open to everyone in northern Germany with an interest in project management and publicised by the PMI, GPM and DGQ regional organisations. Acando GmbH in Hamburg kindly provided the venue.
Once the participants had been welcomed to the network meeting on the theme of agile and hybrid project management, Udo Schmidt briefly explained what the IAPM is and what it offers in the field of international project management.
Bernd Törber presented the sponsor, Acando GmbH, and a selection of its services and customer projects. It was obvious that a mix of traditional and agile project management methods plays a predominant role in the company’s training and certification projects. Dr Stefan Hilmer elaborated further in his presentation entitled "Agile and hybrid project management - Arcando’s experiences and best practices in customer projects“ during the main part of the event. He provided some interesting insights into “agility” and its applications, from software development to project management and corporate culture. Everyone was very interested in the examples given of recently closed-out projects and references to the lessons learned. A number of participants thought that aspects of the presentation were somewhat controversial, which made it clear that agile and hybrid approaches tend to be very organisation-specific.
The discussions continued during the final part of the event, with snacks and drinks sponsored by Acando GmbH, and everyone took advantage of the opportunity to network. Documents were on display providing a detailed overview of upcoming project management events in northern Germany (organised by the PMI, GPM, DGQ and IAPM) in 2015.

This collaborative partnership between various organisations offers key benefits to the northern-German project management community and generates valuable synergies.
