IAPM certifies 80 Siemens project managers

Certification is an advantage in tenders and international collaborationsThe Bogies Business Segment in the Siemens Infrastructure & Cities Sector’s Locomotives and Components / Rail Systems Division Business Unit requested Ottmann & Partner to certify 80 project managers as IAPM standard compliant. Around 40 employees who work in project management, purchasing, quality management and engineering at Siemens AG Graz / Austria were trained and certified between 2011 and 2012, while another 40 staff who already had certification from another certification body exchanged their existing certificates for IAPM certificates.
The Segment Manager believes that internationally recognised certification will be an advantage in global tenders and simplify the project management team’s collaboration with customers and other company departments. By opting for IAPM certification, Siemens was also able to make considerable cost savings because the certificates have unlimited validity and no recertification is necessary. It also saved travel expenses as a result of the fact that the certification examinations could be taken at the company.
The project managers’ feedback on the certification process reflected the examination level and the available timeframe: difficult, tightly scheduled and very well structured. The Segment Manager was extremely satisfied with the outcome. An anonymous group analysis revealed no special further training requirements. Individual recommendations were, however, made in respect of some participants and these are now being addressed.
